Los angeles: The University of California announced a nearly $6.5 million settlement in a lawsuit concerning its response to antisemitic incidents at UCLA during last year's pro-Palestinian protests on campus.

According to Anadolu Agency, the lawsuit was filed by three Jewish UCLA students and a professor, alleging that the protest encampment hindered Jewish students' access to classes and the library. A joint statement from the parties, provided by the UC Office of the President, expressed satisfaction with the settlement terms, highlighting progress in combating antisemitism.

The settlement stipulates that UCLA will continue implementing policies to enhance campus safety for Jewish students, faculty, and staff. The agreement details include a $2.33 million payment to groups supporting UCLA's Jewish community, $320,000 for a campus initiative against antisemitism, $50,000 to each plaintiff totaling $200,000, and $3.6 million for legal fees.

Janet Reilly, Chair of the University of California Board of Regents, emphasized that antisemitism and intimidation contradict the university's values, reaffirming their commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment. She underscored the ongoing efforts to ensure safety and peaceful coexistence for all community members, regardless of their background or beliefs.
