Lusaka: The outgoing US ambassador to Zambia, Michael Gonzales, has refuted allegations that US aid to Zambia is contingent upon the southern African nation's critical minerals. Gonzales emphasized that the United States remains committed to supporting Zambia, Africa's second-largest copper producer, through various initiatives, including financial assistance for healthcare workers.

According to Anadolu Agency, Gonzales highlighted ongoing US interventions, such as funding salaries for approximately 23,000 healthcare workers in Zambia. He affirmed the US's dedication to providing essential healthcare services, which are vital for the country's well-being.

"Further, the US has resumed almost all health assistance after last year's review, providing over $400 million, including $75 million in medication," Gonzales stated, as reported by the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation. He underscored that the US-Zambia relationship is evolving into a new phase characterized by mutual benefit and transparency.
