Ankara: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev held high-level talks Wednesday on regional energy security and the stability of global oil supply chains.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions emphasized the crucial role of energy security, focusing on the reliable and continuous export of Kazakhstan-origin oil via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott highlighted the significance of these talks for regional stability and prosperity.

Rubio expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan's support of US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives and indicated interest in strengthening economic ties. The Kazakh Foreign Ministry confirmed that the conversation included discussions on the "Enhanced Strategic Partnership" and preparations for Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's upcoming visit to the US for the G20 Summit in December.

The talks also addressed the situation surrounding the CPC in light of recent security threats in the Black Sea. Two oil tankers, the Liberia-flagged ASIA and the Marshall Islands-flagged NISSOS IOS, were attacked by drones near the CPC terminal in the Black Sea last month, as reported by the CPC.

CPC is responsible for transporting crude oil from Kazakhstan's Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak fields. The consortium reported that it shipped 70.5 million metric tons of oil in 2025, with over 75% of the volume belonging to foreign producers.
