Gyeongju: The US and South Korea have entered into a significant agreement to collaborate on advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, space exploration, and next-generation mobile networks. This agreement, known as the Technology Prosperity Deal, was signed in anticipation of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, a southeastern city in South Korea.

According to Anadolu Agency, the signing of the pact coincided with US President Donald Trump's arrival in South Korea for a two-day visit, during which he engaged in discussions with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. The joint agreement highlighted AI's potential to drive innovation and progress across various sectors, including healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and education. The agreement emphasized the development of pro-innovation AI policy frameworks and the promotion of trusted AI technology exports.

Ha Jung-woo, who serves as the senior AI policy and future planning advisor to President Lee, stated that the focus of the pact would be on prioritizing direction over speed, trust over control, and cooperation over competition. Michael Kratsios, head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, remarked that the pact underscores Washington's recognition of South Korea as a valuable technology partner.

As South Korea prepares to host the APEC summit, a two-day high-level meeting is scheduled to begin on Friday, with preparatory meetings already in progress among representatives from the 21 member economies.
