Washington: US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and unofficial advisor Jared Kushner held their sixth meeting in two weeks with Ukrainian officials, aiming to discuss steps toward ending the ongoing conflict, the State Department reported on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two days of discussions with Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of General Staff Andriy Hnatov concentrated on "advancing a credible pathway toward a durable and just peace in Ukraine." The talks emphasized Ukraine's commitment to securing a settlement that protects its independence and sovereignty, while ensuring safety and fostering a democratic future.

The meetings also addressed recent American interactions with Russian officials and potential steps to conclude the war, which is approaching its fourth year. Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Witkoff and Kushner in Moscow to deliberate on a peace plan. Following these talks, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov expressed hope that Washington would share outcomes from the ongoing US-Ukraine negotiations in Florida.

In Florida, discussions between US and Ukrainian representatives touched on necessary deterrence capabilities to sustain lasting peace and agreed upon a framework for security arrangements. Both sides emphasized that genuine progress depends on Russia's commitment to long-term peace, including de-escalation and cessation of hostilities.

The parties also reviewed a 'future prosperity agenda,' focusing on post-war reconstruction, joint economic initiatives, and long-term recovery projects. The discussions highlighted that credible progress toward a ceasefire is crucial not only for preventing renewed aggression but also for unlocking Ukraine's redevelopment plan aimed at strengthening the country.

Officials agreed to reconvene on Saturday to continue discussions, following what both sides described as 'productive' and 'successful' meetings in Florida last weekend. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio underscored that the aim extends beyond ending the war to helping Ukrainians rebuild, though he cautioned that the process remains delicate and requires Russia's involvement.
