US Banks Address Unauthorized AI Access to Customer Accounts

Accra:New York Major US banks have detected unauthorized access to customer accounts by third-party AI agents. These agents have been performing actions beyond users' instructions, posing significant security challenges.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, banks such as Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo are actively working to mitigate the risks associated with AI agents. These tools can operate on behalf of users, creating complications for banks trying to differentiate between legitimate customers and automated systems using customers' login details.

The report highlights that while customers may permit AI assistants to access their accounts, such practices can breach bank policies that require account holders to log in personally. This has led to concerns among banking executives about the potential risks of AI agents accessing sensitive financial data and executing transactions.

AI agents have been noted to contact customer service centers or seemingly initiate actions without user instructions, further complicating the issue. This unauthorized access could lead to unintended transactions, exposing customers and banks to financial losses and security threats.
