US Condemns Drone Attacks on Oil Fields in Iraq

Ankara: The US on Wednesday condemned drone attacks on oil fields in the Iraqi Kurdish region. The United States strongly condemned recent drone attacks targeting oil fields in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

According to Anadolu Agency, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated, "These attacks imperil Iraq's stability and economic future. The government of Iraq has a duty to protect its territory and all of its citizens." Bruce emphasized that the strikes are directed at international companies collaborating with Iraq to secure its future, reaffirming Washington's commitment to supporting a "stable, federal and sovereign state."

In a previous statement, the US Embassy in Iraq labeled the attacks as "unacceptable," highlighting their detrimental effect on Iraq's sovereignty and efforts to attract foreign investment. One of the affected sites, the Sarsang field, is operated by HKN Energy, a privately owned US oil and gas company working in Iraq's Kurdish region.
