Washington: The US State Department has strongly condemned the recent Russian strikes on Kyiv that resulted in the death of an American citizen. The attack, which occurred overnight, has drawn significant attention and criticism from the United States, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed the tragic death of the American citizen and assured that the US is prepared to provide consular assistance to the bereaved family. In a statement to reporters, Bruce expressed the department's deepest condolences to the victims and their families, emphasizing the US's strong disapproval of the attacks.
Bruce also mentioned that President Donald Trump has previously made clear his stance on the targeting of civilian areas, describing the incident as "tragic." She reiterated that the safety and security of US citizens abroad remain the department's highest priority.
While extending condolences, Bruce noted that the State Department would refrain from sharing further details about the incident to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time. The identity of the American victim, a 62-year-old, was previously confirmed by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko following the overnight air assault on Ukraine's capital.
