US Delegation to Work to Ensure ‘Best Deal’ with China: White House

Washington: The White House announced that President Donald Trump and his trade team are focused on securing 'the best deal possible for America' as trade talks with China are set to take place in Switzerland.

According to Anadolu Agency, Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the White House, stated that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamison Greer are scheduled to meet with Chinese officials over the weekend in Geneva. Leavitt emphasized that Secretary Bessent has the full support, confidence, and trust of President Trump as he heads to Switzerland.

Leavitt further clarified that these talks are a continuation of ongoing negotiations between the United States and China. "The United States and China have been talking for some time over the course of the administration, and now teams from both countries will meet in person to continue discussions," she noted.

The upcoming negotiations, set for Saturday, are part of efforts to reduce tensions following the US's imposition of tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports earlier this year. In response, Beijing implemented retaliatory tariffs as high as 125%. President Trump also indicated an 80% tariff on Chinese goods on Friday, describing it as the 'right' level ahead of the discussions.
