Beirut: The US Embassy in Beirut announced it will remain closed on Tuesday amid escalating tensions in the region following a US-Israeli attack on Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, the embassy shared its decision to close on March 3 through a post on the social media platform X. This closure comes in the wake of intensified hostilities in Lebanon, where Israeli airstrikes targeted areas in Beirut and southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of at least 52 people and injuries to over 150 others.

The recent escalation was triggered after Hezbollah launched an attack on a military site in northern Israel using rockets and drones. This was a retaliatory move in response to ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon and the joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.

The situation further deteriorated as the US and Israel continued their large-scale offensive on Iran, which began on Saturday. The offensive has led to the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top military leaders.

In retaliation, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and several Gulf countries, which host US military assets.
