US, Emirati Leaders Discuss Cooperation Amidst Regional Tensions

United arab emirates (uae): President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in a significant phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, as reported by Emirati news agency WAM. The discussion focused on strengthening US-UAE cooperation and evaluating the current regional developments.

According to Anadolu Agency, the leaders explored possibilities to enhance bilateral ties, aligning with the shared interests of both nations. The conversation also delved into the diplomatic efforts underway to address the ongoing regional issues.

This dialogue follows the recent visit of US CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper, who concluded a comprehensive 10-day tour of the Middle East, including stops in Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The region has been experiencing heightened tensions since February, following a surprise joint military operation by Israel and the US targeting Iranian assets.

In response, Iran launched a series of missile and drone strikes against Israeli and US positions, leading to an escalation of hostilities. Efforts to de-escalate the situation saw Tehran and Washington signing a memorandum of understanding in mid-June, facilitated by Pakistani and Qatari mediators. However, negotiations have stalled due to ongoing disputes concerning maritime security and navigation through the Hormuz Strait, a vital corridor for Gulf oil and gas exports.
