Washington: US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack expressed deep concern on Tuesday regarding the confirmed Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in northern Syria. The envoy characterized the attack as an unnecessary escalation that does not contribute to regional stability.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barrack commented on US social media platform X, emphasizing that the airstrikes represent an escalation that undermines efforts toward peace in the region. He noted that the government led by Ahmad Al-Sharra has not exhibited aggressive behavior nor maintained proxy forces, and has repeatedly expressed a preference for de-escalation with Israel.

Barrack further mentioned that the United States has historically hosted discussions aimed at fostering diplomatic dialogue rather than resorting to military measures. As the US ambassador to Trkiye, he reiterated America's commitment to encouraging peaceful negotiations between Syria and Israel.

US Representative Joe Wilson also criticized the airstrikes, stating that continued one-sided aggression is harmful to achieving peace and stability in the region. Wilson highlighted that Damascus has shown a willingness to engage in dialogue with Tel Aviv and has been actively working to intercept weapons destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The airstrikes were reportedly conducted by an Israeli aircraft and involved eight attacks targeting the runway of the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in Idlib's eastern countryside. While the strikes resulted in material damage to the airbase's infrastructure, no casualties were reported, according to Al-Ikhbariyya TV.
