US Envoy Suggests Possible Iran Strikes, Trump Unaware of Plans

Washington:US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack has indicated that the United States could potentially carry out strikes on Iran as soon as this weekend. However, President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he was unaware of any such possibility suggested by his envoy.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Barrack, who also serves as the US special presidential envoy for Syria and Iraq, mentioned in an interview that a strike could "absolutely" occur this weekend. Clips of the interview circulated online on Friday.

When reporters questioned Trump about Barrack's comments and whether this signaled a shift in his stance on postponing possible strikes until after the November 3 midterm elections, Trump appeared taken aback. "That was my ambassador?" Trump questioned. "He's a pretty powerful man, I guess. Well if that's the case, I don't know anything about it," he added.

Barrack further explained the Trump administration's strategy towards Iran, clarifying that the goal is not regime change but rather reducing regional and international security threats. He stated that the consequence of their approach would not be regime change, but rather a rebalancing to eliminate hostages and threats, allowing global tensions to ease.

Additionally, Barrack noted that Trump is open to negotiating an agreement with Tehran, provided certain conditions are met. Trump remains "open and available and accessible to a deal," but he has been clear about his expectations for any potential agreement.
