Paris: A French government spokesman warned Thursday that the 'US has everything to lose by entering into a trade war with Europe.' Christophe Lemoine pointed out at a weekly news briefing that US President Donald Trump made 'extremely significant' decisions on tariffs.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lemoine emphasized that Europe is the number one trading partner of the US, suggesting that 'there will obviously be a European response.' He highlighted the importance of the economic relationship between the two regions and hinted at possible retaliatory measures from Europe if the trade tensions escalate.
Lemoine added that France has always maintained a close dialogue with the US on various subjects of cooperation and assured that the dialogue continued. Despite the current tensions, he noted that this ongoing communication is crucial for resolving trade disputes and sustaining bilateral relations.
'It's true that there has been a change in American posture in relation to the Biden administration, so it's now up to us to adapt to this change,' he stated. His remarks indicate a strategic approach by France to adjust to the evolving US trade policies while aiming to protect European economic interests.
