Washington d.c.: US forces conducted strikes on Iranian targets after a tanker attack near the Strait of Hormuz. The US military Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation, stating that American forces carried out additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran following Tehran's attack on a commercial ship. The strikes were conducted on June 27 at the direction of the Commander in Chief.
According to Anadolu Agency, the attacks were a response to Iranian forces launching a one-way attack drone that hit the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz with over 2 million barrels of crude oil. CENTCOM emphasized that Iran had been given an opportunity to adhere to a ceasefire agreement after US strikes the previous day, but chose not to comply.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard reported that missile and drone strikes targeted eight US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for recent American attacks on Iranian positions. The Revolutionary Guard stated that its naval and aerospace units executed a decisive operation targeting key US military infrastructures, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. The operation was said to be a response to US forces' attacks on five Iranian coastal positions, which Iran described as a pretext for confronting its operation against a 'violating vessel.'
In a separate development, US President Donald Trump expressed support for Lebanon's sovereignty, economy, and armed forces during a call with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. The Lebanese presidency reported that Trump congratulated Aoun on the signing of a US-sponsored framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, reaffirming Washington's support for Lebanon and its people. Trump emphasized the US's commitment to helping implement the agreement and restoring security and stability in Lebanon. He also stressed support for Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as efforts to extend state authority throughout Lebanese territory via the country's armed forces.
