Us central command: US forces have redirected 92 commercial vessels while enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran, the US military's Central Command said Sunday. "As of Sept. 6, US forces have redirected 92 commercial vessels, disabled 3 and boarded 2 to ensure strict compliance," Central Command stated on US social media company X. The command further noted that a US Air Force F-35A stealth fighter jet was actively patrolling regional waters.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement emerged amid an ongoing conflict that originated when the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran in February, which prompted retaliatory attacks by Iran against US targets across the region. This escalation has led to increased military activities, including the recent enforcement actions in the maritime domain.

In June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, which outlined steps toward de-escalating hostilities, reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and addressing economic sanctions. However, the two nations have since accused each other of failing to uphold commitments outlined in the memorandum, leading to continued military tensions and disputes over sanctions and navigation rights through the Strait of Hormuz.
