Tel Aviv: The US has suspended the delivery of 130 bulldozers to Israel in response to ongoing home demolitions in the Gaza Strip, as reported by Israeli media on Sunday. According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli Defense Ministry had previously secured a significant contract to acquire approximately 130 D9 bulldozers from US manufacturer Caterpillar. The report, citing Israeli security sources, indicates that the US recently put a hold on the agreement due to the deployment of these bulldozers in demolishing residences in Gaza, which has sparked extensive criticism within the United States. The sources further claimed that Israel had already made payment for the bulldozers and was awaiting export authorization from the US State Department. The Israeli daily noted that the suspension comes at a critical time for Israel, which is in dire need of the bulldozers, particularly after the machinery had undergone maintenance. Additionally, the Israeli army has been involved in ground operations in southern Lebanon for over a month, necessitating further D9 bulldozers for the area. The newspaper also reported that the delay in the bulldozer shipment has stalled Israel's plans to establish a buffer zone between Gaza and the Negev in southern Israel. This plan involves clearing hundreds of Palestinian structures and agricultural lands along the Gaza border. In addition, the report states that Washington has also halted the delivery of hundreds of heavy bombs to the Israeli military. Israel had purchased about 1,300 bombs from Boeing, each weighing nearly a ton. The US expressed concerns that these bombs could be used in ways that might endanger civilians in Gaza. While half of the bomb shipment has been delivered, the remainder is still held in US storage facilities. Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its military campaign against the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. The offensive has resulted in over 43,600 casualties and has left the region nearly uninhab itable. Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice due to its actions in the besieged enclave.
