US House Minority Leader Demands Trump Administration Address West Bank Violence

Washington: US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called on the Trump administration Monday to pressure Israel to protect Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank amid growing violence by Israeli occupiers.

According to Anadolu Agency, Jeffries expressed his concern through a post on the US social media platform X, stating, "The ongoing siege of Palestinian homes in the West Bank by violent, lawbreaking settlers is unacceptable. Enough." He urged the Trump administration to compel the Israeli government to safeguard the lives, property, and livelihood of innocent Palestinian civilians.

Jeffries' remarks emerge in the context of mounting international outrage over attacks by Israeli occupiers in the West Bank and increasing concern over the Israeli military's response to occupiers who have besieged several Palestinian homes in the village of Qusra. Last week, the United Nations issued a warning, stating that occupier violence in the West Bank had reached unprecedented levels, documenting over 1,430 attacks that targeted approximately 260 Palestinian communities since the start of the year.

The violence, which includes demolitions and evictions, has displaced 3,800 Palestinians, nearly half of whom are children, according to the UN. Since the onset of the Gaza war in October 2023, Israeli forces and occupiers have intensified their attacks across the occupied West Bank, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,183 Palestinians, injuries to around 13,000, and the arrest of nearly 25,000 individuals, as reported by Palestinian figures.
