Ankara: The Republican-controlled US House of Representatives has narrowly approved a $95 billion budget proposal aimed at funding the ongoing war against Iran. The proposal also includes provisions for farmer aid and the advancement of parts of President Donald Trump's election legislation. The measure passed with a 216-214 vote, reflecting a deeply divided House.

According to Anadolu Agency, the budget plan saw opposition from all Democrats, as well as Republicans Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson, and independent Kevin Kiley, who typically aligns with the Republicans. The resolution now moves to the Senate, where it faces uncertain prospects due to skepticism from some Republican senators. These senators have raised concerns about the additional war funding for Iran and questioned the inclusion of election-related provisions under reconciliation rules.

The Trump administration had requested this supplemental funding last month, as the conflict with Iran entered its fifth month. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently estimated that the war has already cost the US $37.5 billion, highlighting the financial strain of the ongoing military engagement.
