US Imposes Limits on Official Travel to Nogales, Citing Security Concerns

Ankara: The US has implemented restrictions on official travel and activities to the Mexican border city of Nogales, limiting movement to essential purposes during daylight hours only due to unspecified threat information. The US mission to Mexico has alerted American citizens about this development, emphasizing a heightened state of caution.

According to Anadolu Agency, US officials have not disclosed the specific nature of the threat that prompted these restrictions. The mission has advised citizens to maintain increased vigilance, remain aware of their surroundings, seek shelter if necessary, and adhere to instructions from Mexican law enforcement authorities.

Nogales, situated in the northern Mexican state of Sonora, is recognized as a significant crossing point with a history marked by organized crime, smuggling, and occasional violence. The state of Sonora borders the US states of Arizona to the north and New Mexico to the northeast.

The US travel advisory has classified Sonora as a Level 3 area, recommending travelers to reconsider their plans to visit the region.
