Kuwait city: informed Israel that the recently extended ceasefire with Iran is set to expire on Sunday, as reported by Israeli media.
According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported on Wednesday that US officials communicated to Tel Aviv the deadline set by President Donald Trump for Tehran, which is approaching rapidly. The broadcaster, citing an unnamed diplomatic source, noted that Trump aims to reach understandings with Iran rather than engage in long-term negotiations.
The Israeli sources expressed skepticism about the possibility of a breakthrough by the end of the week. They also mentioned experiencing 'confusion' regarding the US's actions, as they have been informed of Trump's decisions primarily through media coverage and his social media announcements.
Earlier on Wednesday, a White House official informed Fox News that the ceasefire might continue for three to five days. However, an Israeli source indicated that the situation remains uncertain and largely hinges on Trump's decisions, as reported by the broadcaster.
On Tuesday, Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran after receiving a request from Pakistan, stating it would be upheld until Tehran presents a 'unified proposal.'
The region has witnessed escalating hostilities since the US and Israel conducted joint strikes on Iran on February 28. Following these actions, Tehran retaliated with strikes targeting Israel and other regional countries hosting US assets.
Pakistan facilitated talks between Washington and Tehran on April 11-12 after brokering the ceasefire on April 8. Efforts for another round of negotiations are ongoing, but uncertainty lingers.
