Muscat: US and Iranian delegations have commenced indirect talks in Oman, focusing on the nuclear issue, as reported by Iran's state broadcaster. The discussions, mediated by Oman, started with separate meetings between Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, as well as Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East.

According to Anadolu Agency, the US and Iranian delegations remain in separate rooms, with communication facilitated by Omani mediation through note exchanges. While these meetings have not been officially confirmed by US and Omani authorities, they occur amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, exacerbated by an American military buildup in the Persian Gulf and threats of military action by Trump.

The Iranian delegation, led by Abbas Araghchi, includes Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Foreign Ministry deputy for political affairs; Esmaeil Baghaei, ministry spokesperson; Hamid Ghanbari, ministry deputy for economic affairs; and other diplomats. The US side is represented by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and unofficial aide.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the head of US Central Command (CENTCOM) is expected to join the talks, although no official confirmation has been provided for this development.
