Burgenstock: The ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran in Switzerland have hit a significant roadblock following recent threats from US President Donald Trump, according to sources close to the mediation. The talks, which were anticipated to ease tensions, have been temporarily suspended, with little chance of resumption on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Iranian delegation has expressed strong dissatisfaction and anger over President Trump's latest social media post. In his message, Trump urged Iran to immediately cease the activities of their proxies in Lebanon, warning that failure to comply could result in harsh repercussions from Washington. This development has caused the Iranian side to refuse the continuation of discussions, thereby stalling the second round of talks that were yet to commence by 1930GMT.

Efforts to mediate and resume the dialogue are ongoing. Pakistani and Qatari officials are actively communicating with Iranian negotiators to encourage them back to the negotiating table. The talks, which began with a 100-minute first round between US Vice President JD Vance and Iran's Bagher Qalibaf, are crucial for the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier on June 17. Despite the current setbacks, sources emphasize that the dialogue process is not entirely over, leaving a window open for potential future negotiations.
