US-Israeli Strike Kills Two in Iraq’s Anbar Province

Anbar: Two members of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were killed and four others wounded in a strike on their position in western Iraq on Tuesday,

According to Anadolu Agency, The PMF reported that the attack targeted a site belonging to the 17th Brigade in the Rutba district of western Anbar at around 2:30 pm.

The PMF described the strike as a 'treacherous' US-Israeli attack. The group stated that two fighters were killed and four others injured, noting that these numbers represent a preliminary toll. The PMF is a state-sanctioned Iraqi security and military umbrella formed in 2014 after a religious edict by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani to combat the ISIS terrorist group. It was officially integrated into Iraq's armed forces in 2016.

The recent attacks on PMF sites, which have resulted in casualties among fighters, occur amid a broader conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran since February 28. Washington accuses some PMF factions of having connections to Iran, as Iraqi groups under the 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' banner have claimed responsibility for attacks on US bases in the region.

The ongoing US and Israeli air offensive on Iran has led to the deaths of over 1,340 people, including the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with attacks on Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. These retaliatory actions have resulted in casualties, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
