Beirut: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that American forces have redirected 55 commercial vessels, disabled two, and boarded two others while strictly enforcing a blockade against Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, CENTCOM shared on the US social media platform X that US sailors were monitoring operations aboard the USS Ross (DDG 71), which is one of over 20 US warships deployed in the Middle East. These warships are supporting various military missions, including the enforcement of the blockade. However, CENTCOM did not disclose further details about the vessels or the specific circumstances surrounding these actions.

The conflict between the US and Iran has been ongoing since February, following a joint offensive by the US and Israel against Tehran. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile strikes targeting Gulf countries hosting US assets. A temporary ceasefire was agreed upon in April, leading to a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding in June, aiming to end the military conflict and establish a lasting peace. Despite these efforts, the agreement collapsed last month, resulting in nearly two weeks of attacks before US President Donald Trump halted the bombardment amid reports of ongoing talks to resolve the conflict.
