Washington: US Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that American forces intercepted and destroyed two Iranian one-way attack drones over the Strait of Hormuz. The drones were considered a threat to the safety of international maritime traffic in the crucial waterway.

According to Anadolu Agency, CENTCOM announced on the US social media platform X that the incident occurred when the drones threatened shipping routes in the region. The statement emphasized the readiness of American forces to defend against perceived Iranian aggression. This development highlights ongoing tensions in the area, which is vital for global oil shipments.

In other international developments, Hamas has initiated talks in Cairo to discuss the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The meetings, involving mediators and Palestinian factions, aim to enforce the first phase of the agreement and plan for its second phase. Spokesman Hazem Qassem stated that the discussions focus on ending Israeli violations, reopening border crossings, and allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza. The talks also address potential deployment of international forces and disarmament of Palestinian factions.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has arrived in Tehran for discussions with Iranian officials as part of Islamabad’s mediation efforts between Iran and the US. According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Naqvi is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. The visit aims to explore “new proposals” related to the diplomatic process facilitated by Pakistan between Tehran and Washington.
