Miami: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters Tuesday in Miami that Washington has no plans to follow the UK's lead in taking action against illegal Israeli occupiers.

According to Anadolu Agency, Rubio stated that Britain had briefed Washington beforehand but emphasized that the decision was solely the UK's. "Well, they alerted us to it. We don't have any announcements, obviously," he said. "These are decisions that they make."

"Obviously, we're not going to do what the UK did. We saw their announcement today, but I don't have any comment on it right now," he added, before departing for Colombia.

Rubio expressed concerns about potential escalation in the occupied West Bank. "We don't want to see some uptick in violence, or an uptick in conflict or tensions in the West Bank at a very tenuous time in the region," he remarked. "There's always tenuous times."

He connected the issue to broader US diplomatic initiatives, noting that it "has implications as well on our ability to make progress with regard to Gaza and the 20-point plan and the Board of Peace that we're very committed to."

Rubio's comments followed British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband's announcement that the UK would impose a ban on imports of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, citing the "ethnic cleansing of Palestinians."

In his address to lawmakers in the House of Commons, Miliband stated that the announcement marked the "beginning of a new approach" toward Israel, with legislation introducing the import ban expected within six to nine months, alongside more immediate measures.
