Caracas: The US government has reported that an estimated 75 individuals were killed during a military raid in Caracas, aimed at capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This information was revealed by The Washington Post, which cited officials familiar with the situation.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, indicated that estimates of the death toll range from 75 to 80 individuals, while some assessments put the figure at a minimum of 67. The casualties reportedly include members of Venezuelan and Cuban security forces, as well as civilians who were caught in the conflict.

Additional information from the New York Times suggested that the death toll from Saturday's US military operation had climbed to 80, according to a senior Venezuelan official. The report also mentioned that the number could potentially increase.

On January 3, US special forces successfully captured President Nicolas Maduro during a nighttime raid in Caracas, subsequently taking him into US custody amid airstrikes on military targets. The operation was sanctioned by President Donald Trump and was a result of longstanding federal indictments against Maduro, which accused him of narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, and corruption.

On January 5, President Maduro appeared in a federal court in New York City, where he was seen in handcuffs and wearing an orange jumpsuit. During the court appearance, he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
