US Peace Envoy Applauds Trkiye, Qatar, Egypt for Mediation in Gaza Ceasefire


Washington: US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff praised the mediating nations that helped bring the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to fruition, singling out senior officials from Trkiye, Qatar, and Egypt at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting Thursday in Washington.



According to Anadolu Agency, Witkoff expressed his gratitude towards Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin for their significant contributions to the peace process. He acknowledged their critical roles in mediating the conflict and facilitating dialogue.



Witkoff also extended his thanks to Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, describing him as “an exceptional human being” for his efforts and dedication in the peace negotiations. His involvement was highlighted as pivotal in the discussions that led to the ceasefire.



Regarding Egypt, Witkoff commended President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and intelligence chief Hassan Rashad for their perseverance and collaboration throughout the peace process. He noted that they “went through so much” together, underscoring the challenges they faced.



In relation to the US’s involvement, Witkoff credited Vice President JD Vance for his “insight and counsel,” and referred to Secretary of State Marco Rubio as “an amazing secretary.” He also expressed his appreciation for Jared Kushner, whom he described as his “dear friend and the best partner I ever had,” while reserving his highest praise for US President Donald Trump. Additionally, he recognized White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for her behind-the-scenes support in the mediation efforts.
