Washington: US President Donald Trump announced a 48-hour ultimatum for Iran to comply with Washington's demands to negotiate a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump conveyed this message through his social media platform, Truth Social, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the President reminded the public of his earlier extension to Iran, granting a 10-day period for nuclear negotiations after Tehran reportedly sent 10 Pakistani-flagged oil tankers as a gesture of goodwill. The deadline extension was initially announced on March 26. Trump has now made it clear that the time frame is narrowing significantly, warning of severe consequences if Iran fails to act within the newly set period.

The tension in the region has escalated since the US and Israel conducted a joint offensive against Iran on February 28. This military action resulted in the death of over 1,340 individuals, including Iran's then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting locations in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and other Gulf countries that host US military forces. Additionally, Iran has imposed restrictions on the passage of ships through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global oil shipments.
