Baku:Washington More than 95% of ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz have done so safely in recent months, according to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM). This comes despite ongoing tensions and aggression from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to Anadolu Agency – English, CENTCOM highlighted that American forces have played a significant role in assisting Gulf partners, facilitating the export of over 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil since the summer. CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper emphasized the continued cooperation with Gulf partners and the shipping industry during his visit to the waterway.
In the past six months, American forces have supported more than 3,000 merchant vessels in passing through the crucial chokepoint. This effort gained momentum after the US dismantled naval mines that had been placed in international sea lanes by the IRGC.
The control of the Strait of Hormuz remains a key issue in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which began in late February following joint strikes by the US and Israel. Despite a ceasefire and a memorandum aimed at achieving a final peace deal, the conflict has yet to be resolved.
