Washington: The US has revoked visas of some Indian business executives, corporate leadership, and their family members over their alleged involvement in trafficking fentanyl precursors, an official statement said Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency, these individuals were subsequently denied visas, as stated by the US Embassy in New Delhi, without revealing the identities of those punished for alleged links. The US mission in New Delhi emphasized its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking, warning that individuals and organizations involved in the illegal production and trafficking of drugs to the United States, along with their families, will face consequences, including being denied access to the United States.

The embassy also cautioned that executives connected with companies known to have trafficked fentanyl precursors will face heightened scrutiny if and when they apply for US visas.

Stopping the flow of fentanyl, including its precursors, to the United States is a top priority for the US, which expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its close cooperation in combating this shared challenge.

The Trump administration has previously taken punitive actions against China and Venezuela for alleged fentanyl trafficking into the US. In March, the US imposed a 20% tariff on Chinese goods, targeting products linked to fentanyl precursor chemicals and supply chains utilized by drug cartels to produce synthetic opioids.
