Washington: US Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced that sanctions against Iran have been integrated into an ongoing Russia sanctions bill. Thune stated on Thursday that the inclusion has garnered general acceptance, as the Iranian sanctions align with longstanding US policy, Punchbowl News reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, Thune highlighted that Democratic lawmakers are currently reviewing this addition, as both political parties are working towards reaching a consensus on the timing for a vote before the congressional recess. "I've been having conversations with the Democrats and the folks on our side, and I think we're honing in on it," Thune remarked, indicating ongoing bipartisan negotiations.

This legislative development comes in response to a recent appeal from US President Donald Trump, who urged the inclusion of Iran in the bipartisan sanctions bill in honor of its late author, US Sen. Lindsey Graham. Trump's appeal was made public on his social media platform Truth Social, where he stated, "Republicans should add Iran to the Russian Sanctions Bill," emphasizing that the inclusion was "what Lindsey wanted to do."
