Riyadh: The US State Department has announced restrictions on travel for its government employees to the Saudi Arabian cities of Taif and Yanbu. This decision comes in response to the ongoing regional security environment, highlighting concerns for the safety of American personnel in these areas.

According to Anadolu Agency, the US mission in Saudi Arabia issued a security alert stating that US government employees stationed in the country will now need special authorization for all official and personal travel to the two cities. The mission has emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance for all American citizens, encouraging them to keep their cellphones charged, avoid demonstrations or areas with heavy police presence, and maintain a low profile, especially at locations associated with the US.

The security alert advises American citizens to seek immediate shelter away from windows and doors in case of an aerial attack. It also assures that both standard and emergency consular assistance remain operational throughout Saudi Arabia. This measure follows a recent escalation in military tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi rebels, and coincides with Washington's advisory for Americans outside the Middle East to reconsider travel plans to or through the region due to potential risks.
