ISTANBUL: Major US stock exchanges opened lower on Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 20 points, or 0.5%, to 41,230 as of 9.42 a.m. EDT (1342GMT). The SandP 500 lost three points, or 0.06% to 5,622. The Nasdaq Composite fell 39 points, or 0.22%, to 17,715. The VIX volatility index, referred to as the "fear index," climbed 1.5% to 15.66. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.16% to 3.841%. The US dollar index increased 0.6% to 101.14, while the euro lost 0.6% against the dollar, trading at $1.1117. Precious metals were in negative territory. Gold fell 0.8% to $2,504 per ounce and silver lost 2.1% to $29.34 per ounce. Oil prices decreased around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $77.88 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $74.75 per barrel. Source: Anadolu Agency
