Moscow: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Monday that the United States employs tariffs and sanctions as a means to undermine the national sovereignty of other countries. She asserted that no tariff wars or sanctions could alter the natural progression of history.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zakharova highlighted that sanctions and restrictions have become an unfortunate reality in today's global scenario, impacting nations worldwide. She accused Washington of struggling to accept its diminishing dominance in the emerging multipolar world order, continuing to pursue a neocolonial policy to maintain its supremacy.
Zakharova criticized the US for using politicized economic pressure against its adversaries, describing this approach as a direct assault on national sovereignty and an attempt to meddle in the internal affairs of other states. She warned of the risks associated with such policies, including hindered economic growth, disruption of supply chains, and global economic disintegration.
She further remarked that the increased economic pressure on countries such as Brazil contradicts the free trade principles previously upheld by Western nations. She expressed confidence that tariff wars and sanctions would not disrupt the natural course of history, noting that many partners, allies, and like-minded nations, especially from the Global South and BRICS, share this perspective.
Zakharova declared Moscow's readiness to bolster cooperation with these countries to counteract what she described as illegal unilateral sanctions pressure and to promote a genuinely multilateral, fair, and equitable world order.
In response, US President Donald Trump criticized the BRICS nations of Brazil and India, labeling it an attack on the dollar, and announced plans for additional tariffs on these countries.
