Tehran: The US virtual embassy in Iran has issued an urgent advisory for American citizens, urging them to leave the country 'now' if possible and to develop a plan for departure that does not depend on assistance from the US government. This advisory highlights the escalating security concerns and the need for immediate action to ensure personal safety.

According to Anadolu Agency, the embassy's security alert, published on its website, outlined the current challenges faced by US citizens in Iran. It cited increased security measures, road closures, disruptions in public transportation, and ongoing internet blockages as significant issues. Furthermore, the Government of Iran continues to restrict access to mobile, landline, and national internet networks, with airlines limiting or canceling flights to and from the country.

The advisory further recommended that US citizens prepare for continued internet outages and plan alternative means of communication. It advised those in Iran to consider departing by land to neighboring countries such as Armenia or Turkey, if safely possible. The warning emphasized the risk of questioning, arrest, or detention that US citizens may face and advised them to avoid demonstrations and maintain a low profile.

In situations where leaving is not feasible, the advisory suggested finding a 'secure location' within one's residence or another safe building. Citizens were urged to stock up on essential supplies, including food, water, medications, and other necessary items, to prepare for any potential prolonged stay within secure confines.
