Baku: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday announced that his country is poised to sign a significant agreement to supply green energy to Europe "in the coming days." Speaking at the UN Climate Change Conference's (COP29) World Leaders Summit in Baku, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of addressing climate change, which he described as a major global threat contributing to geopolitical tensions and affecting food and energy security, as well as resource access. According to Anadolu Agency, Mirziyoyev highlighted the challenges faced by Central Asia due to climate change and reiterated Uzbekistan's commitment to the Paris Agreement's goal of preventing temperature increases. As part of its efforts, Uzbekistan is implementing extensive reforms to achieve carbon neutrality, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030 and is prepared to extend this commitment to 2050. Mirziyoyev further stated that Uzbekistan plans to increase the share of green energy in its energy portfolio to 40%, un derlining the nation's dedication to combating climate change's impacts. He expressed Uzbekistan's readiness for open dialogue and partnership aimed at promoting common well-being and advancing green development.
