East Nusa Tenggara: An Indonesian volcano located in the East Nusa Tenggara region erupted on Tuesday, sending an ash column 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) above sea level. The eruption occurred at Mt. Lewotobi Laki-Laki on the island of Flores, a popular tourist destination.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation raised the alert level of the volcano to the highest level, four, on Monday, prior to the eruption. Volcano Observation Post Officer Yohanes Kolli Sorywutun urged residents to stay calm and adhere to directions from authorities, as highlighted by Okezone News.

The authorities have advised people to avoid the area within a 2-kilometer (1.2 miles) radius from the eruption center to ensure their safety. Meanwhile, the Japan Meteorological Agency is closely monitoring the situation to determine if the eruption could trigger a tsunami, as reported by Japanese public broadcaster NHK.

Indonesia, positioned on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire,' experiences significant seismic activity and is home to 130 active volcanoes, making it one of the most seismically active countries globally.
