Westchester County:New York Voting machines experienced significant technical issues across Westchester County, New York, during the ongoing US midterm elections, compelling election workers to manually collect paper ballots.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, local news outlet Westchester News 12 reported that the Westchester County Board of Elections instructed poll workers to check in voters and place their ballots in designated containers while technicians worked to resolve the hardware malfunctions. The New York State Board of Elections attributed the issues to an update in election programming, which was necessary due to a change in one municipality's contest but left other machines unable to recognize the ballots.
The Board of Elections plans to transport the sealed containers directly to their office for counting before processing the ballots that were scanned by functional voting machines. Efforts are underway to install updated election media, with the aim of restoring scanning capability to at least one machine at each polling location.
New York Attorney General Letitia James assured that voters could safely cast their ballots, emphasizing that every valid vote would be counted. The state board also clarified that the ballot paper itself did not have any issues that would prevent scanning once the machines were operational again.
In Florida, voting was briefly interrupted due to electronic login issues at several Broward County polling sites. The problems were quickly resolved, allowing voting to resume. Additionally, flooding led to the relocation of a polling station in Davie, moving voters to a different precinct location.
