Berlin: Wholesale prices in Germany rose by 1.2% in September on a yearly basis, the federal statistical office Destatis announced on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the main reason for the year-on-year increase in wholesale prices was higher food, beverage, and tobacco prices, with average prices rising 4.2% since September 2024. The wholesale prices particularly of coffee, tea, cocoa, and spices saw a significant increase of 22.2% compared to a year earlier. Additionally, prices for sugar, confectionery, and bakery products also experienced a rise of 14.6% from the same month of the previous year.

Destatis further reported that considerably higher year-on-year prices were recorded for live animals, which increased by 10.7%, as well as meat and meat products, which rose by 10.5%. Milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats, and oils also saw a price increase of 5.6%. On a monthly basis, wholesale prices went up by 0.2%.
