Woman Killed in Failed Houthi Missile Launch in Yemen’s Taiz

Taiz:A woman was killed and three others were injured when a missile launched by Yemen's Houthi group malfunctioned and fell in the southwestern province of Taiz.

According to Anadolu Agency, the missile fell after a failed launch attempt by the Houthis from the area of Al-Shamayatayn. The state-run Aljoumhouriya TV did not provide further details on the circumstances of the incident or the condition of the injured.

In a separate incident, Aljoumhouriya reported deaths and injuries after Houthi shelling struck civilian homes in the Watir area of Sabir al-Mawadim, also in Taiz. However, specifics on the casualties were not disclosed, and the Houthis have not commented on either incident.

These incidents occur amid intensified fighting between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis, particularly in the regions of Taiz, Marib, and along Yemen's western coast. Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, stated that Operation 'Dawn of Yemen' aims to retake the capital Sanaa and restore state institutions from Houthi control.

The recent escalation is one of the most significant since a UN-brokered truce in 2022 provided a period of relative calm. Yemen's conflict began in 2014 when the Houthis seized Sanaa, leading to a Saudi-led coalition's intervention in support of the internationally recognized government.
