Schipluiden: The world's first cultured meat farm is on the brink of opening in the western South Holland province of the Netherlands, as reported by broadcaster NOS on Wednesday. The farm, a pioneering project in the field of sustainable agriculture, is being constructed in the village of Schipluiden on the dairy farm owned by Corne van Leeuwen, an artisanal cheesemaker.

According to Anadolu Agency, the initial production modules for the farm have already been installed this week. The concept of cultured meat, initially envisioned by researcher Willem van Eelen, was brought to fruition in 2013 when Maastricht physiologist Mark Post, supported by Google funding, successfully grew the world's first lab-made hamburger using cow muscle stem cells. This innovation was driven by early concerns about animal welfare in intensive livestock farming.

The pilot project in Schipluiden aims to produce cultured meat on a small scale directly on the farm. In addition to the production facilities, an experience center is planned to open in the spring of 2026. This center will offer visitors an opportunity to learn about and observe the cultured meat production process firsthand.
