Beijing: China's President Xi Jinping on Friday called for a 'brand new chapter' in relations with Thailand during talks in Beijing with King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who is on the first visit by a Thai monarch to China since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1975.

According to Anadolu Agency, Xi emphasized the importance of this visit, stating, "Standing at a new historical starting point, the two countries will work together to usher in greater progress in the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future in the next 50 years, and jointly write a brand new chapter of China-Thailand friendship." The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, celebrated as the 'Golden Jubilee of China-Thailand Friendship.'

Xi highlighted the enduring relationship between the two countries over the past fifty years, noting that despite the changing international landscape, China and Thailand have consistently supported each other. He remarked on the 'special friendship' known as 'Jeen Thai Phee Nong Gan' (China and Thailand are as close as one family), which has continued to strengthen over time.

King Vajiralongkorn, accompanied by Queen Suthida, arrived in Beijing on Thursday. This marks their first trip to China since Vajiralongkorn ascended the throne in 2016. The visit is significant, as bilateral trade between the countries reached $133.98 billion last year, with China being the largest export destination for Thai products.

This trip is only the second official overseas visit for Vajiralongkorn since becoming king, with his first being to Bhutan in April of this year.
