Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for "high-level self-reliance" in the nation's science and technology sectors.

According to Anadolu Agency, Xi emphasized the necessity of seizing historic opportunities and overcoming contemporary challenges to achieve self-reliance and strength in these fields. He articulated a vision of steady progress toward the 2035 goal of positioning China as a leading nation in science and technology, highlighting the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) as a crucial stage for tackling significant challenges and enhancing China's capabilities in these areas.

The remarks were made at an event in Beijing, which was attended by members of the science and technology community. During the event, President Xi also presented China's top science and technology award for 2025 to notable figures including Chen Liquan, recognized for his breakthroughs in battery science, and Ben De, acknowledged for his foundational work in China's airborne pulse-Doppler radar technology.
