Aden:The Yemeni army reported that its air defenses successfully intercepted and downed Houthi drones over the interim capital, Aden. This action comes as government forces intensified their operations, striking Houthi positions in Sanaa, Saada, and Taiz amid a surge in fighting across the country.
According to Anadolu Agency, army spokesman Majed al-Nuzaili confirmed that the air defenses shot down Houthi suicide drones as they approached civilian areas in Aden. This incident marks the first occurrence of its kind in the city since August 24.
Al-Nuzaili also revealed on the US social media platform X that government forces targeted high-value locations in the capital, Sanaa, though further details were not provided. Additionally, he noted that 11 high-value targets in Saada were hit, without disclosing the specific weapons used.
In Taiz, al-Nuzaili stated that air force warplanes conducted 20 strikes over three hours against Houthi movements and equipment. These strikes occurred in areas including Humair, Bani Bakari, Samea, and al-Wazi'iyah, reportedly causing significant damage to enemy targets.
The Taiz Military Axis media center reported intense clashes between government forces and Houthis in the northern front of Taiz, with fighting escalating across several fronts in the province over the past day.
This recent surge in military action marks the broadest escalation since September 10, when Houthis captured the strategic city of Mokha near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The conflict is part of an ongoing escalation that began in July, following a period of relative calm after a 2022 truce. The escalation has seen Houthis gaining control over key locations in Al Hudaydah and Taiz provinces, including Mokha and extending their reach to Mayun Island.
Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since the Houthis took control of Sanaa in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in support of the Yemeni government the following year.
