Yemeni Army Launches Strikes on Houthi Forces in Taiz, Causing Casualties

Ankara: The Yemeni army announced that it targeted Houthi gatherings and reinforcements in the southwestern province of Taiz, leading to the deaths and injuries of several fighters. Army forces conducted shelling on the city’s northern front, as stated by the Taiz Military Axis on Facebook.

According to Anadolu Agency, the shelling resulted in casualties among the Houthi forces, though specific figures were not disclosed. The Houthis have not yet responded to the army’s claims.

Yemen’s Defense Ministry reported that Houthi mortar fire inflicted extensive damage on homes in Taiz. Six mortar shells were reportedly fired at villages in the Al-Ashmalah area west of Taiz, causing panic among residents, particularly women and children; however, no casualties were reported.

These incidents occurred just hours after the Yemeni government-aligned National Resistance Forces stated that the Houthis launched attacks on the city of Mokha in Taiz province, utilizing ballistic missiles and drones. Despite a relative lull in fighting since April 2022, clashes have resumed in several provinces, including Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea, and Taiz, as Yemen continues to grapple with severe humanitarian and economic challenges.
