Yemeni Army Reports Heavy Houthi Casualties in Taiz Clashes

Taiz:The Yemeni army reported on Wednesday that clashes in the southwestern province of Taiz resulted in over 200 Houthi fighters being killed or injured.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Taiz Military Axis announced on the social media platform X that intense fighting persisted throughout Wednesday on several fronts, including Dhubab to the west and Al-Aqrud and Al-Shaqab to the south. The clashes, which began in the morning, reportedly became more severe by the afternoon.

The military statement detailed that airstrikes targeted a convoy of tanks and military vehicles belonging to the Houthis in the Ras al-Najd area of Al-Misrakh district. Additionally, two airstrikes were carried out early Wednesday on Houthi positions near Sofitel Hill east of Taiz city, and further strikes targeted a tank and a military vehicle on the Dhubab front later in the day. The reported Houthi losses included more than 200 fighters killed or wounded, destruction of a military vehicle, damage to two tanks, a downed drone, and destruction of an armed convoy.

These figures have not been independently verified, and the Houthis have not commented on the claims.

The renewed fighting is part of the 'Dawn of Yemen' military operation launched by Yemen's internationally recognized government to regain Houthi-controlled territories, including the capital, Sanaa. This offensive, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, has intensified battles in various areas, particularly in Taiz, where control over strategic positions and supply routes is contested.

Yemen has been in turmoil since the Houthis took control of Sanaa in 2014, leading to the displacement of the internationally recognized government. In response, a Saudi-led coalition began military intervention in 2015 to support the government.
