Yemeni Army Reports Over 35 Houthi Fighters Killed or Wounded in Taiz Operation

Taiz:Yemen's army announced that over 35 fighters from the Houthi group were killed or wounded during a military operation targeting their positions in the southwestern province of Taiz. The operation was carried out by the army's 35th Armored Brigade and was described as a "swift and targeted operation" against Houthi positions and fortifications along the Aqrouz front in the Al-Misrakh district.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the operation targeted specific positions at Jabal Al-Manara, Kour, Wadi Kour, Al-Maqda, Al-Dabaya, and Kahlan. Though the statement from the Yemeni army did not detail the exact number of fatalities or injuries, it mentioned the operation resulted in disabling a military vehicle equipped with weapons and destroying Houthi fortifications at the targeted sites.

The Houthis have yet to comment on the Yemeni army's account of the operation. The Taiz province has been a hotspot of intense fighting between the Yemeni army and the Houthis, leading to significant casualties on both sides. Strategically, Taiz acts as a crucial geographic bridge and vital link between Yemen's northern provinces, making control over the province critical for supply routes and transport corridors connecting the interim capital, Aden, with the central and northern provinces.

The recent military engagements are part of an escalation that started in July, marking the most significant conflict since a truce in April 2022. Yemeni government forces have been conducting Operation Dawn of Yemen since October 5, aiming to regain control of state institutions from the Houthis and recapture the capital, Sanaa. The prolonged conflict in Yemen traces back to 2014 when the Houthis seized Sanaa, leading to a Saudi-led coalition intervention in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized government. Currently, the Houthis control much of northern and western Yemen, while the government forces and their allies maintain control over Aden and significant parts of the southern and eastern provinces.
