Yemen: Yemen's Houthi group announced early Sunday that it conducted an attack involving ballistic missiles and drones targeting a military base in southern Saudi Arabia.

According to Anadolu Agency, the attack was reported by Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree on the US social media platform X. The statement revealed that the attack aimed at weapons depots and command-and-control rooms at the Sharurah base. A significant number of ballistic missiles and drones were utilized, and Saree claimed that the strikes successfully hit their intended targets.

Saree explained that the attack was a retaliatory measure against ongoing Saudi assaults on Yemen. He further warned of potential larger strikes deeper within Saudi territory if these attacks persist. As of now, Saudi authorities have not issued a comment regarding the Houthi claim.

Earlier on Saturday, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense reported that a projectile had landed in the Al-Tuwal governorate in the southwestern Jazan region, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The projectile also caused damage to a mosque, several buildings, and vehicles.

In recent days, the territorial control map of Yemen has shifted amid escalating confrontations between government forces and the Houthis since July, following a period of relative calm. The Houthis have claimed control over the entire western Al-Hudaydah province, advancing in the western Taiz province and capturing the coastal city of Mokha along with its Red Sea port. This advance has brought them close to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical maritime passageway.

Meanwhile, government forces have reported progress in the northern Al-Jawf province along the Saudi border, nearing its provincial capital, Al-Hazm. Clashes continue in the Marib, Al-Bayda, and Al-Dhale provinces. The conflict in Yemen began when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several other provinces in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led Arab coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
